From The Open Bible Project
45:1 The message that Jeremiah the prophet spoke to Baruch the son of Neriah, when he wrote these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying,
- (a) Who was Jeremiah’s disciple, and wrote his prophecies under him.
- (b) Of which read (Jeremiah 36:9,10).
45:2 Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, to you, Baruch:
45:3 You said, Woe is me now! for Yahweh has added sorrow to my pain; I am weary with my groaning, and I find no rest.
- (c) Baruch moved with an inconsiderate zeal for Jeremiah’s imprisonment, but chiefly for the destruction of the people and the temple makes this lamentation, as in (Psalms 6:6).
45:4 You shall tell him, Thus says Yahweh: Behold, that which I have built will I break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up; and this in the whole land.
- (d) Meaning that God could destroy this people, because he had planted them.
45:5 Do you seek great things for yourself? Don't seek them; for, behold, I will bring evil on all flesh, says Yahweh; but your life will I give to you for a prey in all places where you go.
- (e) "Do you think to have honour and credit?" in which he shows his infirmity.
- (f) Read (Jeremiah 21:9).
