John Footnotes

Footnote 1 -- (John Chapter 1:5) The word translated "apprehended" (katelaben) is often translated "comprehended" or "overcome". It is often used ambiguously to mean a grasping either mental or physical, e.g. getting a grip on an enemy or grasping what's on his mind. "Apprehend" may be used of both ("to apprehend a suspect" or "to apprehend a motive", the latter akin to "comprehend"), and is thus chosen here.
